last night was the big lady gaga concert.
having never been to an arena type concert before, i was awestruck at the sheer magnitude of it all. the audience was so loud and passionate for her they formed an undulating unit of extreme joy.
i was surprisingly moved quite a few times last night. she clearly loves gay people and outcasts and about every 15 minutes or so, she would scream at the top of her lungs, such pearls of wisdom like, “you are not a freak, YOU WERE BORN THAT WAY BABY” and “YOU ARE ALL SUPERSTARS JUST LIKE ME” and “i hope you leave here tonight not loving me more BUT LOVING YOURSELF MORE”. with every stuart smalley affirmation she doled out, the audience decibel level went through the roof.
there’s no denying she is very talented. she really sang the shit out of her stuff and danced full out (none of the rumored “lying down” stuff i ‘ve heard). she connected to audience the entire time, throwing little treats to her monsters with “you’re so pretty” and “look at your red hair”. it seemed she gave her whole heart and soul to us last night.
the premise was a dorothy in the wizard of oz type thing in which she and her androgynous pals must make it to the moster ball or else…um…she faces, like, i guess, a really lame night because she’s wearing a sparkler bra and like, where else can you wear that?
in betwixt her myriad of costume changes, there was lots of footage of her channeling madonna circa “justify my love” and other “edgy” crap that i could have done without. but dang, that girl can sing. and talk. she talked a lot. did i mention she loves the gays?
seated beside me was a family that appeared to be mom, dad, daughter and friend and son and friend. the boys were maybe around 10-11 years old and were kind of too cool for school at first but by the end those boys were jumping and fist pumping right along with mom, dad, older sisters, grannies, trannies and dannys.
that crazy bitch told us to put our “MOTHERFUCKING HANDS UP” and we did.
